FAQ
Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about running a project on Tipping Bucket, and the best answers we could come up with.
So, how exactly does Tipping Bucket work?
Tipping Bucket is a successful online platform that helps individuals and organizations fundraise for sustainable social causes. Our site features one project, or bucket, at a time, each with its own specific funding goal and deadline. Using principles of grassroots fundraising and effective social media strategies, we help our partners leverage their social networks (and build new ones), to reach the funding goal in time, $1 donation at a time. If the bucket reaches 100% before time runs out, all the money goes to make the project a reality. If not, the transactions are cancelled and no one pays a dime.
Who can submit a project?
Anyone, that's the whole point. We only discriminate according to how well each proposal meets our DRIPS criteria. It doesn't matter if you are an individual, small team, or existing organization. Start fleshing out your idea and, when it's ready, submit it to the site. Let us know if you have any questions; our goal is to help you transform your good idea into sustainable change.
What types of projects do you accept?
We feature projects from all over the world within several impact sectors (health, education, environment, opportunity, etc.) Click here to explore past projects, but please know that we are open to all kinds of new ideas.
Who decides which projects are accepted?
The Tipping Bucket review board decides which projects are featured on the site; however, it is ultimately our donor community's decision--as they vote with their $1--if a project is funded or not.
What's in it for my project or cause?
There are many benefits to having your project featured on Tipping Bucket. The first is, well, money to make your project happen. Also, it is a major PR and social media boost for your cause or newly-found organization. It will connect you to a community of potential supporters, donors, interns, experts in the field, and like-minded individuals. It will turn your casual newsletter subscribers and Facebook fans into "micro-donors" and advocates. It will tap you into the viral capability of social media and crowd-funding [link], and extend your reach to thousands of socially-minded people, both young and old, who can give a few dollars--and a few shout-outs--in support of your cause. So, in other words, a whole freaking lot.
When will you let me know if my project is accepted?
We'll contact you within one business day to let you know if we think your project is a good fit for Tipping Bucket. If so, your project will be reviewed by our review board, and we'll likely contact you with a few questions. Within one week, we'll let you know if your project is accepted to be featured as a bucket on our site. If so, we'll assign you a project advocate who will guide you in preparing the project for the site and help you build your fundraising strategy.
If my project is accepted, when will it go up on the site?
We schedule our projects as far in advance as possible. Usually, you will know two months in advance before your project goes up on the site. We cannot guarantee exact starting days.
What percentage of the money raised would go to my project?
100%. You get it all. Seriously. Every cent given to us, we pass directly on to you. Awesome, eh?
How much should I try to raise on Tipping Bucket?
You tell us. The point of our site is to raise the full amount you need to make your project happen. Do your best to estimate either how much your full project will cost or how much you need in this phase.
