Chandrapata program set for replication around the region!
Namaste! We are so excited to share with you that the Chandrapata Youth Club are learning sustainable garbage management technology and helping to change the old habits of their parents and village elders.
Now, every household is keeping garbage bins at home and the village has set up collection centers at various corners of the town. They are also working on a "Garbage Collection Centre Program" that can be shared and replicated in surrounding villages.

Project Description:
Villages in Nepal don't have the same garbage collection services that many of us do in our communities. Noticing the adverse affect of the trash build-up in their village, the community members of Chandrapata, Nepal have taken the problem into their own hands, even separating organic trash from non-biodegradable trash. But in order to set-up an effective, long-term solution that will protect their crops, livestock, and lives, they need a small investment from us.
Their plan is to set up a trash-collection and recycling program that the village youth will run. The program will generate funds through recycling, and the revenue will benefit the youth's sports programs, providing both an incentive and social benefit for them. The community is ready to go and is even footing half the bill, but they still need $600 to make this project happen.
Check out their budget:
Needs Community Pays We Pay
60 Trashbins $150
Garbage Disposal Center $250 $500
Sports Materials $100 $100
Training Youth $ 75
Totals $575 $600

Village of Chandrapata, CHOICE Humanitarian Vilage
75 years ago, Chandrapata, Nepal was nothing more than a cemetery but has since developed into a small village of 450 people. Over the past few years they have worked with CHOICE Humanitarian to continue to develop their community with a priority of upgrading their education system and helping surrounding villages do the same. Their enthusiasm for development easily spreads to neighboring villages and they are an example to the whole Lamjung district.
