Power to Learn!

Sector Energy

Country Democratic Republic of the Congo

Project Partner: Sowers of Hope

In a nutshell:

We need $2500 for a solar-electric inverter, storage batteries and charging equipment. The equipment will help power the school, charge lanterns for the students' evening study time, expand the operating hours of the cassava mill and the tailoring business that help support the school, and start another business--a community "charging station" that will help Sowers of Hope move even closer to its goal of becoming the first financially self-sustaining school in Africa.

BUDGET

  • 8 30 watt solar panels : $1200 [Donated-yay!]
  • 1 400 watt inverter unit : $600
  • 4 Extreme storage batteries : $400
  • High-performance cabling : $200
  • 12 Lite-a-Life lanterns : $200
  • Shipping costs : $1200
  • Installation costs : $300

Thank you for inspiring hope in a war torn region and giving the children access to an education. The self-sustaining model portrayed in the video supports the economic development of the region and sets a wonderful example of innovative thinking for the children, their parents, and the community. All the best!

chewight, if the project doesn't tip before time runs out, none of the transactions are processed--so you only actually donate if the project has everything it needs to succeed. We don't do things half-way around here :) And that makes these last 5 days all the more critical! Keep spreading the word.
